Florence David Tour
per person
The Florence David Tour starts with the Accademia Gallery, home to the David and other important statues created by Michelangelo. The visit in this museum will be focused on the David and the Prisoners by Michelangelo. You will be fascinated by these masterpieces because we will unveil the secrets behind their beauty and their creator’s thoughts and life. The lesser-known Prisoners are intriguing because they reveal the personal torment of Michelangelo who sculpted the beautiful figures, struggling to escape from the marble. When you enter the gallery, you will be overwhelmed by the scale of the 17 foot high David. Its massive white marble, shaped and transformed into an idealized anatomic male body, will tower above you. We will reenact the story of the David step-by-step to help you understand how a 26-year-old sculptor could use his talent to create a statue that would become the pinnacle of Renaissance art. The David is, indisputably, Michelangelo’s greatest work of art, and it is considered the ideal of male beauty from the Renaissance. After the museum visit, our Florence David Tour continues on and covers the highlights around the historical center. We visit the Duomo (Cathedral) which is the highlight of the city’s religious center with Brunelleschi’s dome (the largest walled Dome in the world), the beautiful Giotto Bell Tower, and the Romanesque Baptistery with its Gate of Paradise. The Florence David Tour continues through the political center of the city, passing through the narrow, medieval streets with its old towers, we finally arrive in a beautiful square, an open-air museum, the Piazza della Signoria. Massive buildings such as Palazzo Vecchio which is a medieval fortress that has always been the center of Florentine political power. It is even the Town Hall today. The Loggia dei Lanzi will catch your attention with its many statues which are all original masterpieces of the Renaissance. Walking in the Square of the Uffizi Gallery, we come to the Arno River with a breathtaking view of the Ponte Vecchio (The Old Bridge). Strolling along the river under an elegant gallery, we arrive at this iconic bridge home to many historical jewelry shops. From the bridge you can take memorable pictures of this charming city. The Florence David Tour ends in Piazza della Republic which is the central square and heart of Florence in all its majestic elegance.
