Full Day Florence City Tour

Full Day Florence City Tour

per person

This walking tour will give you the possibility of experiencing the ancient city and modern day Florence , discovering and revealing old customs and traditions throughout 2000 years of history.

The Full Day Florence City Tour begins from the birthplace of the city, Piazza della Repubblica.

Here we will try to reconstruct an image of the Roman Florentia from 59 BC, replacing the Hard Rock with the ancient temple of the gods in order to embrace the very heart of the city.
Walking along the ancient Roman road that divides the north and south of the city into two.
We will then arrive in the religious center of Florence, where the massive Duomo of Santa Maria del Fiore will impress you with its three colored marbles, where the architect Filippo Brunelleschi designed the most famous Dome in the world in 1436. It still a mystery of engineering and architecture, well over 116 m high (380 feet). Together we will discover the secrets that have kept it up to date. Here we will also see one of the oldest buildings in town, the Romanesque Baptistery, with its famous Renaissance Gate of Paradise.
The last work, but not the least will be the Gothic Bell Tower of Giotto with its tri-colored marble and the details of the decorations that remind us of the distant 1300s.

From there we will move on to Palazzo Medici and it is time to tell you about this historical dynasty and the Renaissance.

Let the beauty of this place sweep you off your feet. Clear proof of the powerful ambition of the Medici family, the lords of Florence.

Starting with the Medici Palace, the birth place of the Renaissance. The most important court of culture of the early 1400s. It was the house of the masters of the arts as Sandro Botticelli, Michelangelo and many others.

From this sophisticated structure we reach the religious San Lorenzo Church and complex.

With its simple design, this is the religious center of the Medici Family from along ago. Here we will also find their private funeral monuments and the Medici Chapel. The Chapel is a giant structure and its Dome is the second largest in town after the Brunelleschi one. Come and let me unveil all the secrets that these breathtaking and mysterious places, which have been hidden for a very long time.

There is another place here named San Lorenzo and it is the market. An outside historical leather market that surrounds a beautiful lattice work of architecture designed in the 800 hundreds and is better known as Mercato Centrale. Welcome to Florence’s food paradise!

Here you can have your lunch break ! Relax and enjoy the market. I will pick you up in one hour!

After this lunch break, we head towards the political center of the city passing through medieval streets. We will find the Mercato Nuovo, also called Mercato del Porcellino, built in 1500s for the stalls of fabrics and precious objects. Today the stalls offer leather, clothes and souvenirs. But the star of this market is the friendly fountain of the piggy, very dear to the Florentines.
If you come to Florence you can not miss rubbing its nose that is said to bring good luck and a good chance that you will come back to Florence one day.

The Full Day Florence City Tour then continues to Piazza della Signoria, the political center of Florence. This square is a breathtaking open air museum, adorned in white marble and bronze statues and with its massive medieval castle, called Palazzo Vecchio. This building was the government of the glorious Florentine Republic.
This incredible space is one of our musts on our walking tour. It was used as a theater of diplomatic ceremonies, for historical festivals but it was even the place where public executions took place!
Today this square is called “Theater of Wonders” and it is a veritable open-air museum of ancient statues, The Loggia dei Lanzi and buildings such as the elegant Uffizi gallery.

The Full Day Florence City Tour continues to the Arno River and Ponte Vecchio (The Old Bridge). It is the oldest bridge in Florence which dates back to 1345 and houses the antique shops of gold, diamonds and precious jewels that still retain their medieval appearance. From there you will cross the Arno river and immediately arrive in the local neighborhood, Santo Spirito.
There you can really feel the soul of this city, with the workshops of different artisans; little centers of restoration, the shoemaker, the outside food market but especially the local people who are buying bread, taking their dogs out, shopping and talking at the bars . You will walk along the beautiful elegant streets where noble families lived and still live today.

We will be following the path of the secret Vasari Corridor, which runs above the Ponte Vecchio and finds its way to the end at Pitti Palace. This was the last residence of the Medici family. This was where their dynasty ended in the magnificence and luxury of this wonderful palace.
This is the end of the story and the end of the Full Day Florence City Tour. If you wish to stay there and drink something ..I will introduce you to some of the best secret places of this neighborhood that the locals jealously hide.
